Webinar "Offshore Medical Schools in the West Indies: Typical Structure and Assessment" held on 2 December 2021 at 15:00-16:30 CET in virtual modality

The phenomenon of offshore medical schools has widely spread across the world due to the fact that it has become a very lucrative business model.

A central goal of this workshop is to develop a common understanding of the relevant structure of the offshore medical schools in the West Indies and to discuss different aspects of their assessment.

In this workshop we will focus on offshore medical schools based in the West Indies. The acquired knowledge may, however, easily be transferred to similar cases in other countries, i.e. Seychelles.

We shall have a close look at some significant characteristics of the institutions involved and the programmes that they offer.

We will present the West Indies Accreditation System www.caam-hp.org and the Canadian as well as the German approach to the assessment of credentials from offshore medical schools. Subsequently, we will also discuss alternative approaches brought up by participants of the workshop.

The workshop will partly cover the concept of a country presentation and partly wants to support quality assurance in the field of recognition of credentials from medical schools in the Caribbean – and elsewhere.
